What to do in the Somme on a camping holiday

If you're wondering what to visit in the Somme, Les Galets de la Mollière *** tells you a little more about the most beautiful tourist, cultural and natural sites you'll have the chance to discover during your camping holiday in the Somme.

The Baie de Somme and the Hauts-de-France coastline

Near our campsite in Cayeux-sur-Mer, start your visit to the Somme on the coast: the Baie de Somme, the Parc du Marquenterre and the Baie d'Authie. The beauty of the scenery is matched only by the wide range of activities on offer along more than 70 km of coastline: fine sand or pebble beaches for swimming, water sports (sailing, sand yachting, kitesurfing, canoeing, canoeing, coastal canoeing...).

To take a rest, there's nothing better than to enjoy the charming, relaxed lifestyle in the seaside resorts on the Picardy coast, such as Cayeux-sur-Mer, Le Crotoy, Fort-Mahon-Plage, Quend-Plage-les-Pins, Le Tréport and Mers-les-Bains.

Hiking and cycling in the Somme

The Somme is a prime destination for lovers of green tourism and sporting activities. The GR® 800 offers 227 kilometres of walking in 10 days (from Fonsomme to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme). It's also an opportunity to organise a cycling break on the Véloroute de la Somme, 200km of signposted routes through the marshes of Méricourt-sur-Somme, Samara, the Barette ponds and the Cavins marsh at Bourdon.

Camping dans la Somme

A day in Amiens, capital of the Somme

Among the discoveries not to be missed on a camping holiday in the Somme, Amiens is a fine example of a Town of Art and History, where nature, culture and heritage mingle. You'll visit Notre Dame Cathedral, a UNESCO-listed masterpiece of Gothic art, the Jules Vernes House and not forgetting the Hortillonnages, whose origins date back to Gallo-Roman times.

Activities and visits to do with children in the Somme

About Abbeville, you can visit the Grottes de Naours, an unusual place to discover with the family during your stay. This is a vast underground city dug into the limestone of the Picardy plateau, 33 metres underground! At La Chaussée-Tirancourt, the Samara park is well worth a visit. It's the only leisure park of its kind in Europe devoted to prehistory. On the programme: exhibitions and historical re-enactments, fun and educational workshops for children, an arboretum and a botanical garden, all on over 30 hectares.

Cultural sites not to be missed in the Somme

The Somme has a rich historical and tourist heritage. Among the most remarkable places and monuments, the 15th-century Château de Rambures will impress you with its monumental dimensions and enormous round towers. In the Authie valley, Valloires Abbey and its garden designed by landscape architect Gilles Clément are also well worth a visit.

The Somme is also a land of belfries. There are more than a dozen in the département, including Saint-Riquier. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest belfries in Hauts-de-France. Remembrance tourism is another great way to spend a holiday in the Samaritans. Before visiting the battlefields of the Somme, discover the collections at the Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne and the Musée Somme 1916 in Albert.
